Nancy Crow Workshop in Muskegon, MI

Nancy Crow will be teaching the above workshop at the Century Club Ballroom in Muskegon, Michigan from August 11-15, 2014. Class will run from 9am-noon and 2pm-5pm each day with the classroom being open to work in from 7:30am-10pm each day.

Class fee is $650.

The class is listed as Intermediate to Advanced skill level with a sewing machine required.

Teeny Tiny Show call for entry

The Starkweather Arts Center in Romeo, MI is seeking small artwork for their exhibit, the Teeny Tiny Show. Entry deadline is May 3, 2013.

From their website:  Starkweather Arts Center is looking for small works of art for their May 2013 juried exhibition, The Teeny Tiny Show. Artists are invited to enter up to 6 works of art, to be no larger than 8 inches in any direction. Only UNFRAMED, ready to hang works of art will be accepted. Examples of this include gallery wrapped canvases, wood panels, painting mounted to or done on wood, ceramic tiles, metals, and sculptures

The Riverside Arts Center in Ypsilanti, MI is seeking entries for their exhibit, "Map It." Entry deadline is July 1, 2013.

Muskegon Museum of Art call for entry

The Muskegon Museum of Art in Muskegon, MI is seeking entries for it's 85th Reginal Exhibit.

From their website: The MMA’s Regional Exhibition holds a respected position within Michigan’s art tradition, representing the best in our artistic community. This year, for the second year in a row, the invitation to enter artwork is extended to artists throughout our state. Registration is open to all artists 18 years and older who reside in Michigan.

Up to two artworks may be submitted for juror selection. Artworks must be physically brought to the Museum from Thursday, May 2, through Saturday, May 4, or be shipped, pre-paid, to arrive by May 1. Digital entries are not accepted.

Marilyn Prucka's work at Concordia University

Congratulations to SAQA-MI member Marilyn Prucka. Her work, "Fronds", is part of a national juried exhibit "Grace" at the Kreft Gallery.

Dye Classes with Susie Krage

Susie Krage of Surface Design Association - Michigan will be offering several fabric dyeing classes this fall.  All clases are held at her Detroit studio in Indian Village.  If interested, contact Susie at skrage2 "at" att.net.*

Indigo Magic: 1 day

Using only indigo, produce fabrics that range from pale to rich deep blue. We will do some

fabric manipulation to achieve variations in color as well as pattern.

Experience level: All, including beginners.

Limit: 10

Cost: $95 includes all dye and chemicals

Offered:   October 25, 9:30-4:30

Beginning Dyeing: 1 day

Learn the basics of low water immersion dyeing (LWI) using fiber reactive dyes. Both

batching and microwave dyeing will be used. Besides basics, a color gradation and some

manipulation will be included.

Experience level: Beginners

Limit: 8

Cost: $95, includes all dyes and chemicals

Offered: September 13, and again October 4, 9:30-4:30

Dyeing II: 1 day

Working with fiber reactive dye, learn to make  a 2 color gradation, parfait with many colors,

fabric manipulation and over dyeing.

Experience level: Beginning dyeing or equivalent experience

Limit: 8

Cost: $95, includes all dyes and chemicals

Offered September 20, and again October 11, 9:30-4:30

Dyeing III: Working with Thickened Dye,  1 day

Using a variety of tools, learn to create improvisational pattern on fabric. Techniques

include but are not limited to mono-printing several ways, direct painting, squirting, 

drawing, stamping and mark making on fabric.

Level: all skill levels with basic dyeing  experience

Limit: 8

Cost: $95, includes all dyes and chemicals

Offered: September 27, and again,  November 18, 9:30-4:30
