Starting in January, 2010, we will be featuring a monthly Artist Profile of a SAQA Michigan member. We hope by presenting a monthly artist profile our members will get to know each other as well as see what interesting and different works each of us create. Holiday Art Bazaar

Several SAQA Michigan members are also members of the Running with Scissors group. Lynn Krawczyk (FibraArtysta@earthlink.net) sent the following information on their upcoming holiday bazaar. Looks like some really interesting and unique gifts for Christmas!

Running with Scissors, a group of artists from southeast Michigan, is holding its first annual Holiday Art Bazaar. Our members consist of art quilters, art doll creators, knitters, weavers, felters and mixed media artists. I hope you will join us for this exciting sale, see you there!

Another ribbon for Laurie!

Laurie Ceesay's quilt, VIOLETTA, received 3rd place in the Wall Art category at the Treasures of Tomorrow Quilt show in Marshfield, Wi. (Oct. 31-Nov.1). You can see some more of Laurie's work on one of our previous SAQA MI posts here. Congratulation, Laurie.

SAQA: A Sense of Humor Exhibit

Two of our SAQA Michigan artists, Beatrice Hughes and Robbie Payne have pieces in the SAQA exhibit, 'A Sense of Humor'.

Laughter makes the world go 'round' and this exhibition celebrates the laughable, amusing, comical, whimsical, incongruous, and absurd aspects of humor. The exhibit will debut at the International Quilt Festival in Houston from October 15-18, 2009 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The exhibit will then go on to the IQA shows in Chicago and Long Beach in 2010. This exhibit was Juried by Pam RuBert.

Inspired By The Masters

The Fenton - Jack R. Winegarden Library is hosting the Aussome 6 exhibit "Inspired by the Masters" through October 30, 2009. The library is located at 200 E. Caroline Street, Fenton, MI 48430Phone: 810-629-7612 and Hours are Mon-Thu: 9am-9pm Fri-Sat: 9am-5pm Sunday: 12pm-5pm

In 2005, the Aussome6 group was formed as a way to provide positive feedback and critiquing as each member designed and worked on their art work. SAQA members Mary Andrews, Karen Olson, Robbie Payne and Carol Tamasiunas are members of the group.

In this current exhibit, Inspired by the Masters, the group chose six Master Artists to be their inspiration (Beardsley, Frankenthaler, Hokusai, Hundertwasser, Klimt and Mucha). Each member then created a 16” x 20” art quilt based on the works of these master artists. To date there are over 24 pieces in the exhibit and more to come!
