Pole Wrap or Arashi Shibori is a
Japanese fabric dyeing technique that creates a pattern that resembles driving
rain; the word Arashi means “storm” in Japanese. The patterning can appear
architectural or organic depending on how the fabric is manipulated around the
pole. Beautiful colors and textural surprises are
revealed as the poles are unwrapped.
This hands-on
workshop will cover many pole-wrapping techniques. We will use small cotton pieces of cloth (think
fat quarters), and fiber reactive dyes in immersion baths. Please note: This is not an opportunity to
make personal yardage. Supply list will
be sent upon enrollment.

I am in Oklahoma. I am wanting to use this technique to dye thick cotton/canvas like material (ikea slip covers for couch and loveseat). This material will shrink in hot, and I hope a cool or warm water dye will work. I am wanting to imprint a natural colored zebra, leopard or cow print in brown, black, white. If you have any books I can read or techniques you would prescribe I would be so happy to hear about them. If it wont work on this fabric please let me know so I can go to plan B.
